An album exploring relationships & the spiritual, through the wonderful storytelling medium of country, R&B and gospel.
Recorded with an incredible Nashville band, and an array of gifted singers to whom I am indebted.
More on each song and talent involved, below. Thank you to Beaird Music Group for making it all happen!
There's something so special about those childhood friendships, and those shared experiences that stand the test of time.
Singer Jenny Leigh Freeman Sound and Mixing Engineer: Rob Lane
A song about going through difficult experiences and hopefully coming out stronger, wiser, humbled.
Singer: Jason Eustice Sound and Mixing Engineer: Rob Lane
A song about second chances and trying to make that relationship work, in a challenging world.
Singer: Troy Johnson Sound Engineer Jim DeBlanc and Mixing Engineer: David Buchanan
A light hearted, romantic country ditty about falling in love with your best friend. Oh oh …
Singer: Ron Wallace Recording Engineer Jim DeBlanc and Mixing Engineer: David Buchanan
The title track of the album, this is a gospel inspired song, primarily about gratitude and reconnection with the spiritual in ourselves, those around us, especially those closest to us, and with the Ultimate Creator of our world.
Singer: Angela Primm Sound Engineer Jim DeBlanc and Mixing Engineer: David Buchanan
A song about self liberation, personal growth and not letting past mistakes "break you." Reflect, hopefully learn, and then move forward with forgiveness and acceptance of oneself. Often easier said than done, but a powerful idea.
Singer: Tania Hancheroff Sound Engineer Rob Lane and Mixing Engineer: David Buchanan
Originally written for a male vocalist, Lisa sang this to help out when the band was recording it, and I loved her earthy interpretation so much, I had to ask her to record it too.
Singer: Lisa Brokop Sound Engineer: Rob Lane and Mixing Engineer: David Buchanan
Written originally in the first person, I thought it would be interesting to pursue as a duet, where both partners are actually feeling the same emotions, and it becomes a shared conversation. A song about personal fragmentation, disappointment- and ultimately healing.
Singers: JoAnna Janet and Adam Cunningham Sound and Mixing Engineer: Rob Lane
An attempt to realistically portray real life and real love with all that it entails.
Singer: Sarah Aili Sound and Mixing Engineer: Rob Lane
Me (Zimrah) and Angie, the incredible singer on Waves of Grace and all round beautiful person! Such an honor for me to have her sing my song.
Me and Jason, vocalist on You Won. He totally 'got' the song. Great musical instincts and such a lovely person to work with.
Zimrah and the wonderful singer of Old Friend, Jenny Leigh. She got the perfect combo of sweetness and smokiness on this song!
Incredible sound engineer Jim, me and vocalist Ron on Best Friends. Classic, smooth as country singer! Made those characters come alive.
Me and mixing engineer Dave after mixing Best Friends and Waves of Grace. An absolute pleasure watching him work! So much fun getting to sit in on this.
Troy in the booth recording Broken Hearts. An incredible voice, and so fantastic on this song.
